
Getting More Out of Your Old Blow Molding Machines
If you’re running a small or mid-sized brand, you probably have an old blow molding machine that’s seen better days. It still works, but it’s slow. It just can’t keep up with the pace you need. Here is the thing: you don’t actually need to drop a fortune on a brand-new machine to get more bottles out the door. Usually, the real bottleneck is just the heating oven. If you swap those old, tired heating elements for high-density infrared lamps, you can cut down the preheating time. More bottles per hour. Simple as that. The trick is all about heat density. To speed up a PET line, you have to cram more energy into the preform in a shorter window of time. We look at the wattage-to-length ratio. Think of it like a concentrated beam of heat. Moving from a standard quartz tube to a high-output halogen version gets the plastic to that “sweet spot” temperature much faster. But a word of caution. More wattage means more heat soaking into the oven frame. If you crank it up without checking your vents, you might warp your reflectors or fry the electronics. Don’t skip the ventilation check. Finding the right fit We use heavy-wall quartz glass because it doesn’t bow or bend when things get scorching hot. And if you’re worried about the installation, don’t be. We provide standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. You just plug them in. No need to rewire your sockets or spend a weekend modifying the machine. Plus, some of our lamps have a special coating. This helps the heat actually sink into the PET wall instead of just scorching the surface. It’s the difference between a deep heat and a surface burn. Making it work in the real world Once these are in, you’re looking for a uniform heat profile. If one spot is hotter than the rest, you’ll get thin walls and bottles that fail. It’s frustrating and wasteful. Before you make the switch, do me a favor: check your voltage stability. High-output lamps are sensitive. If your power supply is jumping all over the place, these lamps will burn out way too fast. Check the voltage first. Then swap the lamps. Your bottom line will thank you.
